Study with a focus on Pastoral Care

Course description
This professional programme is inter-disciplinary in nature. The intention is to build a holistic approach to Pastoral Leadership through the study of modules listed below.

The programme involves interactive lectures, a Field Placement and Pastoral Care experience plus development of Supervisory and Leadership skills.  The minor dissertation (15,000 words) researches a pastoral issue and serves to integrate the content of the modules into a coherent whole.

Learning Outcomes of the Programme.
You will be able to:

• increase your professional skills in Leadership and Pastoral Care to senior
management level
• integrate theory with best practice
• use an adult learning mode effectively
• explore Pastoral Care in a multicultural and inter-faith context
• analyse and assess how Pastoral Theology and the Behavioural Sciences interact
• Specialise in a specific area in which to invest time and energy.

Course information
• The Masters Programme is one year full-time or two years part-time. It is taught at Level 9 of the National Framework of Qualifications 
• Students not wishing to do a dissertation may complete all the modules and receive a Graduate Diploma.
• A field placement and Dissertation are essential elements of the programme.
• Commencement date of programme is September 15th 2009.

10.    Introduction to Management and Organisation
11.    Adult Education
12.    Research Methods
13.    Introduction to Pastoral Supervision and Ethics
14.    Pastoral Placement
15.    Dissertation

Timetable:
The programme has been reshaped to facilitate students who are working or who have to travel distances. It is now run one day per week. 9am -5pm for part-time students and two days per week, 9am - 5pm, for full-time students.
Part Time 1   Tuesday    9.00 – 5.00
Part Time 2  Thursday  9,00 – 5.00
Full Time     Tuesday and Thursday as above


Entry Requirements

Candidates should hold a Degree or Professional qualification for education, nursing, social work, counselling, or related pastoral areas plus evidence of at least two years pastoral experience. Those who do not have any of the above may apply to be considered for a place as Approval of Prior Learning (APL) Candidates. Forms may be obtained from the Postgraduate Office.
This programme is included on the Department of Education and Science’s Internationalization register of programmes approved by the Minister for Education and Science for the purpose of access to employment by students from outside the EU-EEA.
