Sabbatical Programmes for Men and Women at All Hallows College
View our short DVD on the Programme: wateryourroots
Purpose The All Hallows Sabbatical involves taking time out from a busy routine in an atmosphere of warmth, hospitality and internationality. It is a time to turn towards God, to deepen prayer, and to move towards a contemplative stance in life. It offers the opportunity to take stock of life and to deal with what is involved in transitions.
Goal The programme offers participants a context in which they can explore and appropriate their own spirituality, gather together the strands of their lives and take a fresh look at the future and its possibilities for ministry and for personal development.
The Programmes In Spring and Autumn each year there is a three-month programme. There is also a one-month Post Easter programme. Participants can choose either one or all three programmes, as they are separate, distinct and cover different material.
Each programme offers • Time for personal renewal and reflection on current developments in the Church and the world. • Reflection on the next phase of life for those who are in transition. • Experience of the unique, rich culture and spiritual heritage of Ireland through pilgrimage, theatre, film, music, art and other leisure activities. • Opportunities for golf, gym and walking in Dublin and the countryside … a wonderful way to water one’s roots! There are no papers, examinations or assessments involved in this programme. One may choose all or some of the modules offered.

Location: Dublin, Ireland, in close proximity to city centre and within easy access to sea, mountains and countryside.
History: All Hallows, one of Ireland’s first missionary seminaries, was founded in 1842. Its first graduates ministered to the emigrants who left Ireland during the potato famine of 1845-47. Since that time, All Hallows has sent more than 4,000 ordained priests to the United States, South Africa, India, Canada, Australia, the West Indies, Malaysia, New Zealand, South America, England, Scotland, and Wales. For the past 17 years, All Hallows has widened its vision to meet the constantly changing needs of the worldwide Christian Community. So, today the College offers a wide variety of courses for the initial and ongoing formation of lay women and men, priests and religious. One such course which began fifteen years ago, is our Sabbatical Programme – Renewal for Ministry.
